What we aim for
Julliving.com is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act. We test as we build rather than auditing after the fact.
What that means on this site
- A Reading comfort panel on every page (the slider icon in the header). You can enlarge the text, stop all motion, raise the contrast, widen the line and word spacing, and switch to a typeface whose letters are harder to mix up. Your choices are remembered on this device.
- Colour contrast that meets AA for every combination of text and background, in both light and dark themes.
- Full keyboard access. Every link, button and control can be reached by tabbing, each one shows a clear focus outline, and a “Skip to main content” link comes first.
- Motion that can be switched off. The site respects your device’s reduced-motion setting automatically, and Calmer motion turns off the rest.
- Descriptive alternative text on every image that carries meaning, and none on the purely decorative ones, so a screen reader is not read a list of ornaments.
- Proper page structure — real headings in order, landmark regions, and labelled controls — so assistive technology can navigate it.
- A dark theme for anyone who finds bright pages tiring.
Our printables
The free PDFs are designed to print in black and white as well as colour, on both Letter and A4 paper. They use large, widely spaced type. If you need a version in a different format, ask and we will make one.
Where we know we fall short
We would rather name the gaps than pretend they aren’t there:
- Some book covers and printable previews are artwork with text inside the image. The alternative text describes them, but the words themselves cannot be resized by your browser.
- Books bought through Amazon and printables bought through Etsy are on those companies’ websites, which we do not control and cannot fix.
- We have not yet had this site audited by an independent accessibility professional.
Tell us if something doesn’t work
If any part of this site is hard for you to use, please write to hello@julliving.com and say what happened, which page it was on, and what you were using. We read every message and we will tell you what we can fix and when. You do not need to know the technical words for it — “the text was too small to read on my phone” is exactly the kind of thing we want to hear.
Accessibility here is not a checklist we finished. It is a promise we keep working at.
